Welcome Your New Cadet Captain Sandra Galindo
Welcome cadets, as your Battalion Commander, I undertake the responsibility for every and all actions that occur in the program. The mission is to develop disciplined and liable cadets with the purpose of creating better citizens. This goal is achieved by demonstrating improvement in the three pillars of Junior ROTC: leadership, academics, and physical fitness.
All cadets are welcome and encouraged to take part in events. An upcoming event in which West will be present in is the Veteran’s Day Parade. Cadets who participate in extracurricular activities are given extra credit.
Cadets are able to join any of the teams that are offered. The members of the teams have a great role in holding high the West High School Battalion during competitions.
Teams
Shooting, Raiders (obstacles and exercises), Color Guard (presenting the colors during special ceremonies), Drill (marching with or without rifles), Honor Platoon (create-your-own marching sequence), Cyberpatriot (cybersecurity), Academic Bowl (SAT/Act style of questions).
This year the JPA inspection will be held. Although there is an undetermined date, this inspection is decisive to know if the Junior ROTC program wins the Gold Star or is discontinued for West High School.
I will be working alongside the Battalion Staff. These cadets are given the responsibility of jobs that allow for an effective program. Along with the staff, we are in charge of maintaining a strong Battalion with cadets that live out the Army values in everyday life to accomplish our mission, which is, "to motivate young people to be better citizens.”
